Primal

Reformation. A term that every good Protestant is familiar with. Martin Luther started the whole thing and now, almost 500 years later, we find many various and assorted denominational and non-denominational churches as the end result. But the church today fails to realize that the Reformation is not complete. As a result it has lost its way.

The post-modern church is in serious need of reformation. If the message of Christ is to truly get out into today's world there needs to be a major paradigm shift. In Mark Batterson's new book, "Primal," the solution is one of looking to the past to secure the future. In a term coined by the late Robert Webber the church today needs to be "ancient future."

Not a question of theologies or creeds, but one of being what the first century church actually was, and did. And doing it in a society that has instantaneous communication between people's of different societies. Never before in history has the church had the opportunity to reach as many people. If there was ever a time that Christ followers needed to reclaim the Great Commission, it is now.

The book most recently penned by Mr. Batterson is one that calls us to action, to reclaim the lost soul of Christianity. As such I heartily recommend it to all church leaders. While not a perfect book, none the less it is a call to action. And an action that each and every person can accomplish.

The question of whether or not we, as Christians, find our hearts broken by the things that break the heart of God is one that needs to be asked in every congregation across this land. With "Primal" as a primer for us to follow, we must be sure that the answer is yes.
